Yikes (2007-10-04)

Oh, the summer months. All my regulars from the college have gone home, and it’s now just me and the townies. You have all your regulars- Mr. Potter from the library, who eyes my chest unshamelessly as I pour his morning cup, Violet, the elderly lady who always smells strangely like goats, and is constantly talking to herself, and Grayson, my only refuge. Grayson is an elderly gentlemen whose black lab is having a love affair with my boxer, Graceland. Grayson was a poet many years ago and gives me great tips on how to improve my writing. Don’t let the black pirate patch over his left eye fool you, he’s blind in both.
The pirate patch leads me right into my latest indigestion- The latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Tip number one: DO NOT watch this movie unless you’ve seen the first two. I was totally confused throughout the entire movie and I’ve seen the first two… multiple times.
Tip number two: Go into the movie with an open mind. Low expectations are hard to disappoint. (Although mine were anyways.)
The movie was a cow. A medium sized- cow. Not horrible, but definitely far away from rooster material. The special effects were awesome, and I’m always in the mood for some good pirate-on-pirate fight action. But the whole story was horribly written and put together. I couldn’t follow any of the 14 stories that were all going on at once.
So, watch with caution. If you have nothing else to rent on a lonely Friday night go for it, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. But take it from me, who wasted my entire last week’s tips on a theatre ticket… it’s not worth it.

All of the pirates movies are enertaining, but it is clear, even by the middle of the second movie that Disney was just milking this cash cow until it rolled over dead. The third movie has excitement... (More)
