Oink (2007-10-02)

The rules of marriage are simple. You play golf on Sunday morning, you shop with your wife in Des Moines Sunday afternoon. (Sitting in the Girdle waiting room is the best.) You go fishing on the weekends your mother-in-law comes to town, and then you buy your wife a new kitchen appliance. It's simple. You take your wife to "BLACK DOG" and you then must sit through "STILL BREATHING". Guy movies, girl movies. Fire and Ice. Straw and manure. Two ends of the spectrum. So simple, yet so painful. The key to enduring a romantic show is preparing yourself. First you turn off the basketball playoffs, and watch a show on painting tree moss. This drops your pulse into the right stage. Next you call your friend Gomer and ask him to tell you a joke. You realize it won't be funny. You know you won't laugh, because Gomer is ...well....Gomer. But this teaches you strength and endurance. And then, shortly before you head to the old Paramount theatre for the show, you give your wife a kiss. This won't make up for the fight you will get in later when you start yawning in the movie, but it is a token of your undying love. STILL BREATHING is a little odd romantic film starring "George of the Jungles'" Brendan Frazer. It was slow. I had to check a couple of times to see if I was still breathing. To my dismay, I was. Did I mention that this movie was slow? The story was about fate, destiny and dreams. Heart-pounding thrills to the last moment. This movie was comparable to listening to the First Ladies of the Prairie choir performing at the Forth of July picnic. Do they sound good? Sure. Do they look good? If you squint just right. Would a nap be more entertaining? Most likely. That's the problem here. You sit and churn the ice-cream maker for two hours, waiting patiently for the ice-cream, but the vanilla tastes a bit old, and you won't be able to lift your arm for a week. If only a semi-truck could have barreled through a dream sequence and shaken things up a bit. That would have helped. Good looking actors. Sleepy script. Always remember gentleman, that if you make a choice that suits you, you will have to suffer the consequences. Is it worth a new dishwasher to fish while Myrtle is in town? Yes. Was Black Dog worth the coma inducing Still Breathing. No! Always choices. Better cook up some eggs because this was all pork bacon. Smells good, but gives you heartburn. OINK!

A Rooster! For Hopeless Romantics (2007-10-05)

This movie was recommended to me by a guy friend, who had just announced he was getting married. I casually asked him, "How did you two meet?" And he laughed, and asked me if I'd seen this movie --... (More)

A Rooster! A Sleeper Gem (2007-10-05)

Like many others, I discovered this movie on cable tv. What a little gem! Joanna Going gives a flawless performance as a jaded and hardened Los Angeles scam artist who secretly yearns to be loved.... (More)

A Cow Calmness and Peacefulness of Human Nature Exploited By Some People (2007-10-05)

STILL BREATHING, will be an acquired taste for many people, or better appreciated by those who are fascinated by the game of seduction between humans. It may be a bore for others with a... (More)
