Who Forgot the Plot? (2007-10-02)

Tomb Raider is 20 minutes of action and an hour and a half of boredom. The action scenes are very good and Angelina Jolie kept with her British accent the whole movie, but did we forget to teach PLOT during Filmmaking 101? The producers of this film are banking on the huge following of Lara Croft’s video games, but I guess I’m not really the target market for this type of film. Jon Voight, Jolie’s father in real life, shows up as her father in the film. Other than that, the film is nothing more than a video game on screen, without the constant action. Many of the scenes were good, and I truly enjoyed the action sequences, but the droll plot made me wish for the ability to re-start the game. Since this movie got the green light with a serious lack of plot, let me suggest my version of a follow-up film. It would be called Tool Raider and would follow the exploits of Gomer Hinkle as he tries to get in and out of my tool shed without being caught, maimed or killed. Last October, Gomer bought a Halloween Ninja outfit and came creeping up to the barn late one night to “borrow” by post hole digger. He thought it would be prudent to sneak around in the middle of the night so as not to disturb my slumber. Needless to say, between the barrel of tracker oil, the vat of sheep dip, a pregnant German shepherd and four large rats, Gomer had quite the adventure. He still smells funny though. Baby cow. It had potential, but not much beef right now.

Old Episode of Gunsmoke (2007-10-02)

I finally got my new farmhouse built so today Ira, Clem, and a bunch of the guys are helping me pack and move. They're bugging me to shut down the computer and get to work right now. As a result, my review of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider will be short and sweet. It general, it was a fun movie, but it relied too much on Angelina Jolie's good looks and too little on a great story. Angelina is very easy on the eyes, but Ira could have written the script for Tomb Raider on the back of a napkin while watching an old episode of Gunsmoke. Raider is worth renting just to see the bungie fight sequence, but unless you were a die-hard fan of the video game, I wouldn't spend money at the theater. Lara the Raider is a cow.

A Rooster! I Am Not Going to Lie, She Kicks Butt! (2008-10-01)

Although Angelina Jolie's British accent could have been a little more convincing, this is just another movie that proves she is great actress. And of course I couldn't resist enjoying this high... (More)

A Rooster! No-brainer (2008-09-07)

There's so much less to Tomb Raider than meets the eye. Despite Jolie's pneumatic efforts, the whole film falls dramatically to pieces after even a moment's consideration. Here's the thing: if Lara's... (More)

A Rooster! Better Than I Remembered. (2008-09-01)

After finding this, and its sequel, in my collection, much to my surprise because I don't remember owning them or wanting to own them, I decided to re-watch them. To my surprise, I found... (More)
