A Rooster!

Overwhelming and Touching (2007-10-02)

Life is Beautiful is a MUST-SEE movie. It is easy to see why this film is up for so many Academy Awards this year, including Best Picture. Roberto Benigni is outstanding in his role of a Jewish waiter who falls in love with a young teacher during the early stages of World War II. Life is a joyous adventure for this fun loving man, and he uses humor and wit to get through even the toughest moments of his life. Much of the movie takes place in a German concentration camp and centers around the way in which he fools his young son into thinking that the whole situation is just a game. The love he demonstrates for his family is overwhelming and touching. Benigni shows his outstanding talent on a number of levels. He also wrote and directed this fine film. Bunny and I both enjoyed the movie and would highly recommend it. Don't be scared away by the subtitles, the concentration camp story line or the 'foreign film' stereotype. This is a great movie that uses laughter and tears to make you think. This is not the normal 'Ira' movie. I usually stick to the light comedies or action adventure films, but Life is Beautiful proves that even an old dog like me can learn some new tricks. Don't miss this movie. Rooster.
