Good Acting, But a Fair Movie (2008-02-17)

Ah, the western. One of my favorite types of movies. People say that they don't make them like they used to. Most of that is just nostalgia. The westerns today are really, for the most part much better, but people are thinking about growing up with the westerns of the 50's and 60's and seem to have John Wayne and Clint Eastwood on the brain. 3:10 to Yuma is a good film. Great performances by Russell Crowe and Christian Bale. Ben Foster puts in an especially creepy performance as a stone cold killer in employ of Crowe's outlaw character. The movie is slow, however, and all the characters are flawed. Weak and strong, good and bad, right and wrong all get confused a bit. The scenery is great though and for a rental, it will be a winner.
