About Ira

Hello! My name is Ira Crabtree. Along with my brother-in-law, Gomer Hinkle, I created this web site for your enjoyment. I live about a mile west of Gomer on Farm-to-market road 114. I've been growing corn and beans on my small farm of 76 acres for nearly 30 years. I boast two dozen cows and a handful of chickens to boot. I've been happily married to Gomer’s sister Bunny for over 25 years. I'm closing in on 50 but still feel 35. I'm an avid fisherman and love to spend time with my daughters, Lee and May. If you can’t find me at the theatre, look for me on one of Gomer’s bass ponds.

A few years ago, I purchased the old Maverick theatre on the town square of Doyle Bluffs. It had been closed for almost 15 years and over the next four summers, Gomer and I restored the old girl to the glory we had enjoyed as kids growing up. The theatre seats 250 patrons and shows 2 movies per week. This gives the Gomer and I a great excuse to view movies since I runs the projector and Gomer serves the popcorn at the snack bar.

This web site was first created to advertise the movies for the Maverick theatre, but after numerous requests from their neighbors, we started writing reviews. Though farmers, Gomer and I know movies or at least we think we do. We have a fairly simple way to grade the shows we see and we also have vastly different tastes.

Ira's Favorite Movies

Gomer will watch anything, but I have more discriminating tastes. By "descriminating" I really mean "limited", but Gomer likes me to use big words. I like action. Hot, fast, major action. I like to have fun at the movies as well, so comedies are also up my alley. I don't like to "feel" too much. I like to escape. Gomer could be a guest on Oprah since his tastes run all the way down to horse shed and back, but I only truely care for a couple of types of movies.

Ira's Movie Reviews

I love to watch movies. I love old movies and new movies. I love to watch them at the Maverick or at home with Meg. Reviewing movies is not something to take lightly. Some folks, like our friend Gomer for example, that themselves much to seriously. They feel like they somehow ate a special helping of County Fair fruitcake and now they know more than you about moives.

I do not know any more than you do. I know quite a bit more than Gomer, but so does the head of a broken hammer. I just love movies. As mentioned before, I love Action and action and of course Action. I dig a good comedy and can gobble up a snazzy Sci-Fi movie in a heartbeat. But, I'm just a guy who loves movies. I hope you like my picks. I can grade hard at times, but I think once you get the feel of my style, you can count on my reviews.

These are my favorite movies by category. It's not rocket-science. Pick your poision. Action will give you the biggest group to choose from, but picking drama or art films will at least show you where I stand, when Gomer or Bunny drags me to one.
